Careers

Do real work, and learn how it is done properly.

We are looking for people who want to build skills on real projects: web developers, content writers, and UI/UX and graphic designers. Students and early-career people are welcome to apply.

The work

What the work is.

SideData Technologies builds AI systems, websites and web applications, and manages servers, cloud and IT. Behind all of that sits a lot of work that is not code: explaining things clearly, designing interfaces people can use, and producing documents and visuals that hold up to scrutiny.

The roles below are for people who will work on those parts alongside the engineers.

How you learn

Four ways we help you improve.

  1. Real projects

You work on the website and on real software and content, not exercises set up for training. What you make is used.

  2. Mentorship

You work alongside someone more experienced who explains the reasoning, not only the answer, and who you can ask when you are stuck.

  3. Code and work review

Everything is reviewed by a second person before it ships. Reviews are conversations about the work, with reasons given.

  4. Written feedback

Feedback is written down and specific, so you can reread it, act on it and see your progress over time.

Roles

Three roles.

Web Developer

Build and maintain websites and web applications for SideData and for client work.

You will work on

  • Pages, components and forms in TypeScript, React and Next.js
  • Accessibility fixes and performance improvements
  • Small APIs and database queries behind the interface
  • Automated tests and the build and deploy pipeline

You will learn

  • How a change goes from an idea to a reviewed, tested, deployed release
  • Writing semantic, accessible HTML and maintainable CSS
  • Reading and improving someone else's code
  • Working with Git, pull requests and issue tracking

Likely a good fit if

  • You have built something with HTML, CSS and JavaScript or TypeScript, even a small project
  • You like understanding why something works, not only getting it to work
  • You can take written feedback and act on it

Content Writer

Write clear, accurate copy and documentation about technical work.

You will work on

  • Website copy, service descriptions and guides
  • Technical articles written with engineers
  • Documentation and handover notes for client projects
  • Editing and fact-checking each other's work

You will learn

  • Turning technical detail into plain language without losing accuracy
  • Interviewing engineers and checking claims against sources
  • Structuring content for search and for people using assistive technology
  • Working from an editorial style guide

Likely a good fit if

  • You write clearly and enjoy revising
  • You are curious about how technology works and ask questions until it makes sense
  • You are careful with facts and say when you are not sure

UI/UX and Graphic Designer

Design interfaces, diagrams and brand assets that are clear and accessible.

You will work on

  • Page layouts, components and design tokens
  • Flows and prototypes for web applications
  • Diagrams that explain systems and processes
  • Graphics and brand assets for the website and documents

You will learn

  • Designing for contrast, focus states, text size and keyboard use from the start
  • Handing over designs that developers can build exactly
  • Testing a design with real people and acting on what you see
  • Making a consistent visual system with a small set of choices

Likely a good fit if

  • You can show some design work, even personal or coursework projects
  • You can explain the reasons behind a design decision
  • You are comfortable with a design tool such as Figma

Details

Pay, hours and arrangements.

Details such as compensation, hours, where the work happens and the terms of the arrangement are shared during the conversation, so that they can be explained properly and fit the role. Ask anything you like before you decide.
